PRAYER CALENDAR FOR SEPTEMBER 2010

Love one another deeply from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed,
but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:22-23
1. Let us continue to pray for our sisters and brothers in Haiti as they continue to rebuild
their lives. More than 222,000 people were killed, 300,000 more were injured resulting
in mass amputations, and an estimated 1.3 million are displaced. Pray that the people
will be empowered and have a sense of pride in their own work. May God give them a
hope and a future.
2. Pray for Michael Roop, CBM’s Haiti Program Consultant, as he does a needs and partner
assessment and proposes a mid-to-long term involvement in Haiti’s reconstruction.
May the work that we do together be multiplied by our Heavenly Father and make a
difference not only in the lives of Haitians, but also in the kingdom.
3. Pray for Rev Sam Chaise who has been appointed to be CBM General Secretary as of
October 1, 2010. Pray as he prepares to move to Toronto and take up his responsibilities
of leadership for us. Pray also for Malcolm Card who is acting as interim General
Secretary until Rev Chase arrives. Give thanks for the many dedicated persons who
serve the Lord around the globe and in the positions of leadership as we work together
in obedience to our Lord’s command to spread the gospel to all nations.
4. Give thanks for the years that Patty Card give in leadership to the Guardians of Hope
program in Kenya, Rwanda and Angola. She has given generously of her time and
emotional energy to this ministry. Pray for Aaron and Erica Kenny as they become the
new Guardians of Hope coordinators. Pray that this program will give hope to those who
urgently need help.
5. Pray for The Sharing Way Annual Project. Few things can give a child hope for a brighter
future than education. Yet, too many children have this hope taken away because of
poverty, disease and conflict. Today 72 million children are not in school around the
world (over two-thirds of whom are girls.) Through Hunger for Change; Learning for Life
this year, we can bring hope to boys and girls. Pray that there will be a good response to
this project.
6. Mike and Kathy Steinborn ask us to pray for SIL-Burkina Faso, working together with
the national Bible translating organization and the Bible Society, as they tackle the
remaining Bible translation needs in Burkina. Pray that they will work well together so
that God’s Word will be available to put into the hands of the people who need it.
7. Dan and Melody Grove tell us that the first draft of Luke has been done for the villages
of Bambalang and Bamunka in Cameroon. Pray for the translators and the review
committees to work effectively as they check this work. Pray also for the literacy classes
in several villages. Pray that these people may be thrilled to read the gospel in their own
languages and that it will bear much fruit.
8. Pray for Dan, Melody, Sam and Anna Grove as they settle back into life in Cameroon
after a year in Canada. Pray for Caleb, who is in New Brunswick continuing his studies.
9. Thank God for the renewed inspiration received by Yattani Gollo, Paul Carline and
his daughter Kara at a conference entitled “Muslim and Christian Youth – the Present
Future” in the Middle East in June. Kara has a heart for Muslims. Pray that God will use
the lessons learned there - to be bridge builders and seeds – for his purposes in reaching
those he is calling into his kingdom.
10. Paul Carline tells us that many of the attendees of the above conference were Christians
from the ancient churches of the Middle East and North Africa. Many are marginalized
minorities in their culture. Pray for them as they live their lives in difficult circumstances.
May Christ’s spirit shine through these brothers and sisters.
11. Praise God with Paul and Kelly Carline that the school farm in Garissa, North East
Province in Kenya, is up and running and harvesting. Also the Dadaab Community
Services Group continues to move in the right direction towards development and God.
Pray that God will continue to lead and bless these projects.
12. Praise God with the Carlines that their children did well in school last year. Pray for Kelly
as she continues to work with Kenan with the half day home schooling plan this year.
Kenan made significant progress in this plan last year and is now entering grade 5.
13. Andy DesRoches asks us to pray for the African Christian Church &Schools in Kenya;
that the pastors and leaders he meets with can be true missionaries and instruments
of change where they serve; that there will be a renewed and lasting change from the
leadership.
14. Rebecca DesRoches began at a new school at the end of July. She is teaching math in
the Middle School of the International School of Kenya in Nairobi. Pray that she makes
good connections with her new colleagues.
15. Pray for Sam DesRoches as he begins his classes at University of Waterloo in Civil
Engineering. Pray also for Davita entering Grade 11 at the International School of Kenya.
16. Pray for Dan and Melody Grove as they adjust to life and work in Cameroon after a
year on Home Assignment in Canada. Dan is beginning to translate the Bible into three
more of the languages in his area. Pray that translators will be identified, trained and
mentored. May strong Christians hear a clear call from God to give their lives so their
17. people may read God’s Word in their mother tongues.
Pray for the many literacy classes that have been organized in the villages in Cameroon
so the people can read and write their own languages and be prepared to read the Bible
in their language as it becomes available over the coming years.
18. Pray for Anna Grove as she adjusts to life and schooling in Cameroon after a year in
Grade 5 where she made many friends and attended Pioneer Clubs at the Douglas
Baptist Church in New Brunswick.
19. Pray for Samuel Grove as he gets back into life at the boarding school in Cameroon
without his brother, Caleb. He will graduate from high school this year. Pray for Caleb
as he adjusts to life on his own, and begins his second year at UNB where he is studying
mechanical engineering.
20. Praise God with Jeff and Deann Carter for the many successful speaking engagements
that have encouraged leaders in Croatia, the Netherlands, Germany and Lebanon this
spring. Pray that there will be a lasting effect from these moments of reaching out
to encourage and in some cases equip young leaders. Pray for an ongoing vision for
reaching youth for Christ.
21. Pray for Jeff and Deann Carter as he leads off a busy fall with a European Baptist
Federation general council assembly in September where the work of the Youth and
Children department will be highlighted. Pray for Jeff as he speaks to this assembly.

God’s clear direction as she seeks His will for her future in Canada.
23. Pray with Bill and Janice Dyck for the Indonesian Association of Baptist Churches,
especially for West Kalimantan, as they prepare for their congress meetings to be held
in October in Pontianak. They hold these meetings every five years and many important
decisions are made then. Pray for the committee which prepares for between 400 and
500 delegates from all over Indonesia.
24. June and Pablo Castellon ask us to pray for their daughter Eliana and her husband Craig
as they return to Canada, to PEI where Craig will teach at Grace Christian School this
year. Pray that Eliana will be able to study at Holland College in Charlottetown. Pray also
for June and Pablo’s son Arturo as he completes his final year at UNB.
25. Duane and Carin Guthrie ask us to pray for the government in Bolivia while many
changes are made. Pray for God’s will for Bolivia. Pray for direction as they begin their
community development work in El Alto, La Paz. Pray for the children in this new
neighbourhood.
26. Pray for safe travels for Rebecca Alward as she visits many churches in Canada while
27. home fromSuzannah Nacho give thanks for David’s ordination on July 4th at Grandview
David and September to December.
Calvary Baptist Church in Vancouver while they were home for a brief visit. They ask us
to pray for wisdom for Kairos as they make administrative decisions about how they can
best serve the church and people of Latin America.
28. Praise God with Dianne Friesen for a translation workshop in Arizona that she and
five Mi’kmaq ladies attended. They were challenged, empowered, and caught a vision
for the whole process of translation. Pray that the work done during the summer of
collecting and translating Mi’kmaq stories will help with analysis of their language and
will help them to publish at least one Mi’kmaq book for children in Mi’kmaq immersion
school.
29. Faith Holwyn tells us that in June she attended a conference in Ottawa organized
by native Christian leaders called i4give. They feel that it is important for the people
to publicly accept the government’s apology. Please pray for our native people who
struggle with many social and spiritual challenges.
30. Give thanks with Faith Holwyn as she has opportunities to share about the Groups of
Hope program and the doors that God is opening for this ministry here in Canada, in
South America, India and the possibility of Malawi in 2011.
